Joolz
Designer Airdrie Makim has been creating beautiful jewelled artistry ever since she was a child, growing up on a remote rural property in outback Australia. Now based in Melbourne, Airdrie continued her love affair with jewellery when she started her brand Joolz just a couple of short years ago – and she has been nominated for awards ever since.
Drawing inspiration from 1920s Hollywood glamour, Joolz uses a range of environmentally friendly materials, from pearls, the only sustainable gem on the planet, to recycled vintage playing cards and children’s toys. These materials create striking statement pieces in bold black & white, sometimes including a splash of red, or a dash of cream.
As a designer/ milliner Nikolina hopes to impart the craftsmanship and quality synonymous to the great masters of fashion, as she acknowledges the need to preserve such traditions within contemporary fashion. Nikolina’s work is defined by her particular sense of beauty and a great love of hand crafts, where she imparts as much of her hand onto the cloth to give it life beyond the means of the wearer. Her vision for the contemporary woman is one that relishes in fashion, yet has a developed sense for quality and extravagant detail. With those ideals in mind she has embarked on developing Nikolina Concepts.
